I am working on a 124 and bought a decal kit from Maple Hunter. With it came a dash decal to replace the sheet metal dash plate. My question is, should I put the decal on the dash itself or on the sheet metal plate? I can see advantages to both but welcome suggestions.

Welcome! I would put it on the plate myself. Hope to see some pics of the tractor soon.

Well guys, it wasn't when I expected but she finally rolled out of the shop today.  Thanks for all the advice.  The dash decal is on the plate as suggested.  It really doesn't look the greatest but that is my own fault, not that of Maple Hunter, I want to make that clear!!!  Next time, I think I will try to flatten the dash out more before I try to apply the decal and perhaps get somebody to blast it with walnut hulls to smooth it up, not sure.  BTW, the muffler is a temp till I can get a pipe bent.  The plate in the top the grill is a donor from a 72 until I decide what to do.  This tractor originally had headlights but the PO lost them somewhere.  I would really like to put them back in but don't have any in my stash.
