Yesterday I jumped on a CL ad for a Cadet mower near me.  I picked it up today and had some great conversation with a local farmer frustrated that he once again couldn't spray due to the rain.  We chatted a bit, loaded up the Cadet and then he showed me his collection of IH Built Gas/Diesel combination engines.  He even fired one up.  It took him 4 half cranks to fire that beast and it purred like a kitten.  Awesome engineering on those things that automatcally switch from gas to diesel.  BTW, I might be in the market for a Cadet hood as this one has one of the hinge tabs broken off.  Shipping would be a killer though.

Was this over by New Rome? I'm trying to think who else has a bunch of gas/diesel IHs.

Can the tab be glued back on or is it missing?

I have this one at the shop. I'll take a look at it later once I get to the shop. Have to paint one of your students trailers tonight.

It was about a mile north of Hanska.  He had about 3 crawlers and 3 stationary power plant engines.  He said he found most of them out West.  Stuck in the shed was a real early Farmall F-20, another F-20, and a Cub.  That's the shed I saw anyway.  I bet there's a bunch more hidden at the place.  Real nice guy.

Looks like that hood is missing the entire bottom.  Mine is missing a chunk where it bolted  and pivoted on one side of the frame.  The mower was in a shed that came down and he thought the piece got carried away with the rubble.  With some fiberglass knowledge it could probably be fabbed up again.  I'm an iron guy so I most likely will try to create a bracket and maybe fiberglass around that.

Let me know if he missed any welds.  :D

I have the bottom half of the hood, but the pivet tabs are broke off. If you want we can try fixing yours with chunks from mine.

That could sound like a plan.

Got the 80 running today. Wasn't the easy process that I thought it would be. Almost destroyed the crank trying to get the flywheel off even with using the briggs puller. Finally went to a homemade puller and an air hammer to break it loose. New points, condenser, fuel line, carb kit, solenoid. I think I'm in business now.

Probably not quite park worthy until we get together for some hood ideas. I got a tube the other day and I think I'll be good.
