My John Deere 160 mower runs well for 10-15 mins, begins to break up ,eventually stops. I've recently replaced the coil. Could this be the result of the igniter.

As soon as it dies completely, have an extra spark plug with you so you can put it on the wire & check for spark.  If no spark, then either the new coil is bad, or the igniter is shot.  Chances are it's the igniter, but plenty of folks have bought brand new coils that were junk.  If there is still spark, then almost certainly a fuel issue.  Check the fuel tank cap vent hole.

I would check the gas cap vent 1st. that cost you nothing and an easy fix for starters.

Also tip the seat and look next to the filler neck, at the top of the fuel tank going down towards the left footrest. Is the fuel line draped above the tank in good shape? The fuel vent hose has a tendency to disintegrate over the course of 21-26 years.
