My name is Ken and I killed a perfectly innocent ’79 316. Simply lack of oil. With the help of my father in-law, it has been brought back to life.
I put three little kids in the small utility trailer for the first spring wagon ride, and 5 minutes into running the engine, I smelled something warm. Thinking I was about to lose a belt, I turned back towards the barn. Not 10 seconds later, that was all she wrote. Stopped her dead in her tracks.
I am not one to forget changing oil, but the JD just slipped my mind for to long. Believe you me I won’t be going past the 25 hours of running time.
We bought a good rebuild kit off ebay, and spend a couple of days to put it back together. I am happy that I learned what “not” to do next time, but the appreciation I have for the engine and what it took to bring it back, was enjoyable.
You will see me around the forum, looking for advice to fix all that needs to be done here and there.
If I can learn how to post photos will get them up.
