Well one of them has to go... I'm posting this and my Cub up for sale and whichever goes first, goes.

I have a 1969 John Deere 140 H3 Model. This tractor started life as a "Fleet Red - Custom Color". The ID tag has never been removed.

This tractor is in pretty good condition considering its age. The hood has some cracks but is repairable. The seat is in great condition (not a patio seat). The frame and sheet metal is in great condition (minus some paint chips). The engine runs great, starts every time. It does have an oil leak but it is so small that almost isn't noticeable. I use this Garden Tractor every week just to pull a yard cart around and to take my little girls for rides. The hydrostatic rear end is very strong and does not leak. All tires are in good shape and have no leaks. Has custom air cleaner. Has dual rear brakes but they need adjustment. All lights work. Has original cigarette lighter. Also comes with a HO48 model mower deck that is solid, in great shape and ready to mow.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Price is $900 or trade for GT FEL.

Bobby,

That serial number comes up as a late 1969 140, not a late 1968.

Bobby, When you say custom air cleaner, do you mean the JD heavy duty one mounted on the hood pedestal? Can you post a picture of it? Was the tractor a true Custom Color and you re-painted it green?

Brian,

If you do a search for "Twostep's John Deere 140H3", you'll find the post that has pictures of this tractor when he first bought it. It's a patio tractor painted green with a green painted red hood. As for the air cleaner, it's the standard issue air cleaner, only someone added a farm tractor air cleaner screen under it.

Yup, he is right, not the JD HD air cleaner... I wished. Thanks for correcting that year also. I even had it as a '69 model in my signature. The air cleaner is actually about twice as tall as the stock element. I need to replace it and get a part number. I like the looks of the bigger housing with the screen.

I am having second thoughts now though. I posted up the Cub for sale also and hope to sell it so I can keep the JD...  Of course parts and repairs are more expensive but that doesn't change the fact that I just enjoy the JD more.

Glad to see you decided to keep it Bobby. I've sold many tractors that I wish I still owned, and it leaves a pit in your stomach that never seems to go away.
