Hello!

I have a Kubota L2000, I was using a 3-pt mower with it when I noticed oil all around the shifter?

I have no idea how it could of leaked out, or why it started leaking?

Has anyone ever had this problem with any tractor?

Any info would be great,

I got this tractor last winter and I have never had any problems until now, I don't know what to do with out it!!! :)

I am sure there is some form of seal under the umbrella shaped shield.  It looks like you can remove a clip on top of that spring, then pull the spring & shield up onto the shift arm so you can get a look at exactly what is under there.

I wonder if a vent is blocked and it is getting a pressure buildup as it heats from use. Seems odd that that much oil would come from a spot that high on the transmission.

I'll get a better look at it this evening, I haven't thought of a vent, that might make sense because the (plastic / rubber) fill cap was pushed up a little like it built up presser? I'll do some more checking and see what I find.

Anyone know where the vent would be located?

I'm thinking hydraulics when I saw that.

 

I don't know the old Kubotas extremely well, but maybe the hydraulic pump mates to a shared shaft in the transmission and is pumped oil into the tranny case?   Where's the reservoir?  Perhaps a seal went out. 

 

Just my two cents.  Better check and make sure it is legal tender, though, before you spend it.

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not certain.  Maybe someone who has messed with Kubotas can tell.

I believe it's all the same oil?

If that's the case then there's probably a hydraulic issue of some sort that's overfilling the tranny.

I think the hydraulic reserve is the transmission oil, (I think), this has a small hydraulic pump off of the injector pump that I believe runs everything?

The lines from the hydraulic pump go into the rear end, there is no dipstick to check the oil, but there is a plug in the side of the transmission, I believe that's how you check the oil level?

 

If the oils are in different reserves, then if they would of leaked together, would there be enough oil to leak from the very top of the transmission?

Wouldn't the oils level out???

 

I was using a mower at PTO speed, I was mowing on rough ground at about 3 1/2mph, the temperature was 97 and the oil didn't start leaking until I was about 45 minutes into mowing.

I don't know if any of those things would have effected anything?

I also looked and I can't find any kind of a vent?
I would think it would have one, but I can't find one anywhere???

I refilled the transmission / hydraulics with oil, it was pretty low. I checked some things over and went out to test it, I mowed for 30 minutes and then it stared leaking around the base of the shifter again.
I think I might call the Kubota dealer tomorrow and see what they half to say. I guess I will half to remove the shifter or the top plate and see if there are any seals in there. I removed the little cone cover on the shifter, but I couldn't see much?

Well, I got it fixed, I found out that the vent is a tiny hole in the fill cap, I got it cleaned out and now it works great.
