Does anyone have some good pictures of original decals on a 57' Super Ride-a-Matic?

I'm looking to get some made up for mine but dont have anything intact on my tractor.

Most important are the Hood Decals down the side and the chain Guard Decal

I know Hank Watkins has them but without seeing the pictures and what comes in the set I'm a little weary of buying them.

Anyone buy a set off Hank and have pictures?

I've also been able to uncover some of the original paint on the chassis and matched it with a NOS part I had laying around.

I held the part next to the green brier I custom mixed the paint for and it looks pretty close to the NOS part.

Still deciding whether I should try again to get a closer match or just use the Green brier Custom mix.

It looks like you're having the same issue with the green as  I've had with the cordovan brown. The metallic they used back in the day where so fine that a camera can't pick them up when its scanning the color. It just reads it as a lighter shade of the color.

I don't know if its a good match. I maybe would try scanning the NOS part again and see if it comes out better the next time. Is there some other place you could have it scanned again to have it mixed in a different brand of paint?

Good luck!

I may give it another go with the part as I didnt have this part at the time of the Green Brier Restoration.

Sometimes Bolens paint can be aggravating !

I think Bolens switched paint manufactures on the fly was well during the 50's as there are slight differences in color even from the NOS attachments and parts I have that are supposed to be from the same time period

I read somewhere that FMC had the paint contract bid on every 12 months to insure they got the best price each year. That is why the color seems to change almost every year, even if it was the "same" color. IMHO

Never talked to Hank before...

The part is a mystery... Will get you the number tomorrow maybe you can ID it.

Just degreased a little on the power Pak and the green matches the part as well.....

I would be interested in those paint codes too.  I got a set of decals for my 58 from Hank a few months ago, but haven't installed them yet.  I may make the ride a matic this winter's project.

Here's the latest trial on getting the paint correct.

Been driving myself crazy with this paint matching.... I'm starting to think we are never going to get an exact match as the paint used back then was entirely different than what we have today.

The one to the far left is a little light I think :D

I wish I had more time to go down to the place I get paint from and just start mixing colors from the mixing bank. There has to be a very fine metallic out there that would compare to the metallic in the green and brown Bolens used.

I was just thinking, try having them do a scan on it to come up with a base coat formula. I've never tried doing that before and might give it a shot myself. There is alot more toners for base coats vs single stage. The only down fall is you'll have to clear coat it. I know Buick used a real fine metallic silver on some of their cars years back which I always hated to paint. It shows sand scratches very easily.

When you compare the green out in the sun with the stuff left on the Power Pak and Ride-a-Matic frame it looks pretty close.

The part I had scaned  is a dead on match but the metallic is missing.... I'm wondering if I can just take it back to the store and have them add some of that Metallic silver paint and see what happens?

Worst case scenario it would just cost some $$ to do some more trial quarts but would be worth it if I could get it matched.
