I was mowing today, and I heard something that sounded like my engine was knocking horribly! After listening I noticed it was the clutch pedal bouncing around. I thought this was weird, and then a hundred feet or so later I had to stop so I could turn around; when I pushed the clutch in, I did not stop! So, I had to pull it out of gear. I then new that something was wrong and I was going to limp it to the garage so I could look at it better. When I went to take off I heard a snap and I did not go anywhere. I knew the drive belt had broken.

I just looked in the manual section and could not find a manual for the 312-8. Does anybody have something that says the belt size, which is not in the manual section? If not, I will look around on google; I just dont want to waste time I don't have if somebody here already knows the belt size.

Ryan you can find belt sizes, manuals, decks, everything Wheel Horse in the Yahoo Groups.

http://groups.yahoo....tractormanuals/

Tractor drive belt WH 7473 {HB/5Lx81.95"}
6982 Gates 21/32"x82"
5L820W Napa 21/32"x82"
258-082 Stens 5/8"x82"
85820 Goodyear 5/8"x82"
L582 Dayco 5/8"x82"

Don't know the year of your Horse to look up your belt size(s). I guessed '85 but, any 312-8 should use the belt sizes above.  :wave:

I forgot I posted this thread, so I have not been updating it. I measured the broken belt and it came out to 81" so I got an 81" belt... to small. I did not know how much bigger it needed to be, so I was going to get an 82, 83, and 84... but they did not have an 83, so I just got an 82 and 84. I put the 82 on and it seemed to small, so I tried the 84 and it was way to big! I figured it must be an 83, so I brought them all back, and got an 83 inch belt. I put it on and I could tell it was to big... it was actually the 82! Now, I come on here and see that all of the belts Tank listed are 82" belts! Guess I have to go back again! :wallbanging:

I always use original TORO belts--

-have had no luck with others===don't have the time or patience to go 'hunting for what might be the right belt.

Do youhave a local TORO dealer?

Also check condition of idler pulley/spring set-up while you have the belt guard off..
