I think the Argon CO2 mix would be best for steel. i'll check the chart on the welder at school tomorrow. It tells you how to set it up for the most part.

I use straight argon on aluminum,but never tried it on steel.Argon/ Co2 mix works best on steel , at least that's my view on it.


Yep, as I understand, that's the best for steel, but not affording both tanks, I do decent on steel & TIG with straight argon. I need the straight argon for aluminum welding.

I had absolutely no problems. My gas supplier says many people use straight argon on steel to save needing 2 tanks.
Edited to add: With my TIG, I can weld steel, aluminum, stainless & more with straight argon.
