Does anyone know if the information on the Tractor Data site is correct?   The site appears to say that the Massey Ferguson 1855 was only built in 1977 and 1978 and began with the serial number 200001 and the 1978 model began with serial number 200500.  If this is correct only 500 units were built the first year.

Tractor data info is uploaded by induvuduals like wikipedia. The first of the Snapper built Massey's hit the Massey dealers in the fall of 1976 I thought the 1655 came out in 1977, and the 1855 came out  year later, so 500 tractor before the END of the 1978 model year might be accurate. I dont think they made more than 3,000 of any one model, the 1450, 1650, 1655, or 1855 under the Massey name. Also by engine serial numbers I dont think any Massey 1450/1650s were made after 1981-82, maybe even earlier, Snapper continued to produce 1650/1655/1855s after 1980, but I dont think there were any 1450s made. I believe Massey was dormant (or very limited production) a year or two before moving to Case/Ingersoll and the GTX series tractors starting around 1984-85. Most of the Snapper tractors I see seem to be later than the Massey models. I'm using educated guesses on soe this info, and I could be wrong, I hope to hear any info that supports this or ones that fail to support it. Thanks

Thanks for the info.   The reason i am so curious is because if the serial numbers began with 200001 my tractor would have been the 176 Massey 1855 made. My tractor's serial # is 200176

I do not have any serial # info on the Snappers in this series.

I was going on the hunch that they were made at the same tme as the Masseys and after, up until the snappers were built by PK

I believe my 1855 is a '77 lso, serial number 200319. I thought I had read that they were built up until 82 or so, but guess not after the links you all posted. There will be two less pretty soon, I know of a guy parting two of the 1855's out, I think one is snapper other is MF badge.
