These were some of the best little utillity tractors made, I just love mine, I paid 2950.00 for it and bought a 5 foot brush hog (300.00), two bottom plow (200.00), and a awesome tandam offet disc(400.00). Of course I doubt if it's worth what i have in it, but at least I think it is, lol

The 424 is a great tractor!! I had a 404 gas, a little older than your tractor.

Then one year we had a BIG snow, which initiated my quest.

I ended up with a 584, just a little newer than yours!!

It handles my GT moving duties nicely!!

So, I believe the 424 can do ANYTHING you throw at it!!  :dancingbanana:

My brother had a 404 and it was a great tractor. So have little doubt the 424 would be great as well.
And as long as it does what you want it is worth whatever you have in it.

I have a pretty good idea what you have invested in tires alone!! And a tractor is only as good as the rubber it rides on.

I ran a 424 for awhile maintaining a lot.  Its quite a tractor with just about all the things you need to get the job done and no bells and whistles to mess you up.

It looks like you have a diesel: my 424 was gasoline.  I always hoped that I could get that 424 swapped for an IH utility with a diesel, but that was only because I had a heck of a time with fuel leaks.

Tires were on it, did buy a rim for 125.00

Nice tractor.. I think you did well on the price.. Diesels seem to be worth more.

Mike, you're not hurting at all on your investment.  That size tractor always goes high at sales/lots around here.

It's really all the tractor I need for 20 acres, and more. I have a big boom pole and I wish it had a rear remote, and if I come across one I'd love to have a loader. Utility tractors like this seem to command a lot more money, I could get a 706, 882 IH for the same price and just as nice or a Case 730, 830, or 930 for less than what I have in this tractor, nobody wants or needs big old tractors, but heck even an nice 8N will bring  1200-1500 around here, they are the perfect tractor for someone that doesn't really need a tractor, lol, but hardly compare to the 414/424/444 IH diesels lol

You hit the nail right on the head in saying it is all you need and more on 20 acres. And is as Daniel said the reason they are in demand and sell high. those of us who have more than a few acres, but less than a full size farm do not need a big tractor but definately need a tractor. And I am completely sold on diesels. My tractor is a Ford 1500 diesel. At 2000 lbs and 20 hp, rated for the same size implements as an 8 N. I think of it as an 80s *N and consider it the perfect size tractor for my 9 acre hobby farm.

I've got a 674D, and it's a nice little tractor. Probably bigger than I need, but it is very user friendly. Not the prettiest girl in the shed, but it is a solid tractor. I'd really rather have an Allis 175D, but I'd a had to pay several thou more for one in the same shape as the IH.
