My server is AOL. I may switch to Google Chrome, I'm just so used to what I have.

If you are using Windows Internet Explorer-  INSTALL CHROME OR FIREFOX..  It doesn't have as much crap-ola running in the background thus things will load and run faster if you have a decent web connection.. It's really easy to use once you figure it out too.  We can answer any questions if you have any as well..  Disclaimer-->  Being that you have Frontier ISP you may not notice the difference..  The major difference you will see is that not so many folks can hijack it because it has less stuff running in the background..  **Oh..  and.. stay away of those 'lolita' pages buster!!  :tapping_fingers:

As WNYTractorTinkerer said it is better to run Firefox or Chrome or even on of the light weights the IE and the big reason is that M$ has IE tied to the Windows OS because they use it for all there updates and any other kind of connections so when you use it it is like leaving your front door open and putting a big sign out front saying "Come all thieves and take what you want!" The other browsers are like regular applications on your system and don't have access to the depths as ie does.  That is probably why you got hit so hard.  Another thing you can do is quite running in Administrative mode.

I don't know what that is.

Which OS are you running, Windows 95, Windows98, Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, or 8 to name a few.

When you make your sign-in account use the first as a administrative account, this one you can make changes to your OS, but now make an account that you use to surf the web, but make it with out administrative rights, a lot safer this way with IE. But like others have said use a different browser, I use and like Firefox.

Do like those guys say and set up user accounts and use an account that doesn't have administrative privileges.  (you cannot change System files without signing in to the administrator (you're only a user without those rights!)  A lot of times an errant 'click' anywhere on a web page can blow your 'puter up nowadays..

So What version of Windows are you running Rich?  Vista, NT, 7??  Let it be known & folks can guide you how to manipulate things through your System's 'Control Panel' to set yourself up..

Rich another benefit to Firefox is it has a feature that will prevent you from going to known attack sites and also known web forgery sites plus it blocks the popup windows.

So Rich-  This is how you set up Users on your Windows 7 computer.

Click on the Start button..  A menu appears..

Then Then find & Choose/click on:   "Control Panel'

That will give the options you need to change anything on your computer from sounds to the background wall paper to even what dang language you want to see / read..

You will see this dialogue box appear:

Rich #1.jpg

Select / Click on 'User Accounts and Family Safety' Notice mine has a 'Shield' next to Add/Remove User Accounts..  **This is because only the computer system's Administrator (** in your case so you won't see the shield until you log in as a normal User)

This Dialogue Box will appear:

Rich #2.jpg

You see I have a bunch of Users in my system for anyone who logs onto my computer.  You can adjust privacy and parental controls (to keep folks out of the 'lolita' sites for instance.. :smilewink:

You will only See whatever user name you have applied to your system when you set it up.  I have my Administrator Account Password protected..  This requires anyone who tries to make any system changes to know that password so NO SYSTEM CHANGES can be made without it!!!!  **Make sure it is a password you can readily remember because you WILL need it to perform some updates or add new software..  (really important!)  Otherwise they can just click on Administrative approval and you could end up with rolling porn site ads or something bad like that really easy.. :wallbanging:    Don't hang the password on the wall by the computer as anyone could then corrupt your system and you already know how fun it is to root trouble out..

Down @ the bottom of that box there it the words:  'Create a New Account'  Click on that..

This Dialogue box will appear and you will need to name the account and select the Normal User choice.

Rich #3.jpg

Then Click on 'Create Account' and you are all done!

Hope this helps ya!

Finally! I got fed up and went to Frontier Premium Tech Support and got a techie that knew what he was doing. It took hours, but I'm clean. There was a virus hiding in Java. He told me to be sure and have Java up to date. Most of those annoying up grades are for security reasons.

I don't care what OS you are running, those updates are very important. They can save you from a very big headache.
