Looking for a tractor and found a Simplicity 6216 with 48" deck and a tiller.  They are asking $650 was wondering if this was a fair offer because I do not know much about what tractors are worth.

The 6216 is a good tractor. 16hp with a 3 speed tranny. Fairly rugged set up.

But I would question why the tin is off the motor...

Dixon? Would that be Dixon MO?

To me that would be the upper end of it's worth, but a decent deal IF everything is in great working order.

But then again, comparing to what Walmart has out front for $1,200, then this one's worth 2 grand!

I think the tiller makes it worth it if everything is in decent shape. I am concerned about the sheet metal being off the engine. The sheet metal is part of the cooling system, the flywheel acts as a fan and forces air through the sheet metal, the sheet metal directs the air through the cooling fins and other passages to cool the engine. If your out doing some heavy tilling on a hot day your gonna be running hot. I would mention this to the owner and see if he still has the metal and also use this and any other issue/defect to try to talk them down. If you get it I would replace the metal before putting it to work. Also check it over good for any signs that it may have already been run hot.
