I just got my tire chains yesterday. Been on the lookout for wheel weights to no avail. I've got two EMPTY source holders from work sitting between the seat and dash right now. They are chocked with lead and around 50 lbs each. They helped but I think the tire chains will do more.

Looks like Willie called it. Oil smells strongly of gas. Gonna have to hunt up a fuel pump for it now. Did get my chains installed though. They should help out a lot!

This it's very true, but it feels like the hands have fallen off mine recently.

The new pump is sitting on the running boards waiting on us to get home. Gotta get oil and filter for it so it'll be ready to go.

Got the new pump in this morning and changed the oil and filter. It was puking gas out the muffler when I tried to start it but straightened out and ran good. I should have started it again this evening but I had to do some work on the blazer Julie is driving now and then we had some errands to run. Hopefully one evening this week.

Well, no good. Started it too push snow this morning and it started without the choke and belched raw gas out of the muffler. Oil still smells strongly of gas. Could the fuel shut off solenoid be leaking through or possibly a stuck float? Can that fill the intake full of gas and cause hydrolock in the first couple cranks?

Yes it can! My dedicated mower has that solenoid. I just put a fuel shut off inline and try to remember to shut it off every time. Sometimes, I forget to turn it back on, too! But no more gas in the crankcase. Those were very stupid as far as I am concerned! That gas in the oil shortens the life of the engine real quick!

10-4. I know the gas in the oil is a death sentence, I have a small block in my K5 that was wasted because of a bad fuel pump and the bottom end was trash.

I'll not run it till I can pull it apart. This week is a mess at work and I'm not going to have time to get to it.

Did you change the oil after you put the fuel pump  on it?

Edit. I just saw that you did.

I'm going to attempt pulling the carburetor off tomorrow and cleaning it as well as checking the solenoid. Hopefully I can find out what's causing the issue.

Well I didn't find anything in the needle and seat or in the fuel shut off solenoid. I blew everything out with carb cleaner and put it back together. Now its popping when running. I'm gonna retorque the intake and loosen the valves a tick and see if that helps.

Doesn't appear to be flooding out now. After adjusting the valves either the compression release works and it pops through carburetor or the starter won't turn the engine. I'm at a loss.

Take the plugs out and see if it will turn over then.

Does great with the plugs out. Its definitely something about the valve adjustment.
