This D4-7 has been setting in my building for about 20 years. it was there when I moved in. I pulled it out to my shop about a month ago , put in a battery made sure it would turn over, replaced the spark plug, checked that there was oil in the engine, put gas in the tank. I pushed the start button and it started running. Ran rough for a bit, but smoothed out.  Also all 4 tires where flat, but they pumped up.

There is a working snow thrower and a in the works mower deck.

Stats.

D4-7

Ser. Number 6000

Built in Selma

I'll get the engine info later

You may have the first D4-7 built- it is the only 6000 numbered D4-7 I have heard of so far. All the other D4-7's have 7000 serial numbers. Nice find for sure!

That would be something to have the first D4-7 made! Time will tell.

I,ll try to get to the engine info today. Would be great to know the manufacture date.

Using the link on the Bolens forum that Brian (Bolens 1000) posted for tracking manufacture dates of Wisconsin engines, the date for your engine shows it being produced Jan 1964. Hope this helps.

Scott, have you updated this file lately, the D4-10 that our newest member "dlang94" has posted about is the earliest D4-10 we know of.

Here is the current Bush Hog registry list. I have attached it in PDF form. Let me know if you want it in another form.

If I have missed something let me know. This is always a work in progress.

Scott, in your pdf, my D4-10 with 8798 came with a TRA-10D engine.  Dumb me sold that worn engine not realizing at the time the other TR-10D's I had weren't true 10hp.  I didn't write down the engine serial number.  I was young in the Hog collecting, so I didn't realize what I did.  :(

I have updated the sheet to reflect the correct motor. We all have learned a lot since you started us on this mission - if you had not done such a good job restoring your D4-10.....and I had not seen it...... It sure would have saved me a lot of time and money.
