Is there any way to date this by serial # ?

Doug right now only by the motor serial numbers and it's manufacturing date. I am going to see a old dealer with an old index file he used back when he was selling them. I am hoping that is some of the information I can get from seeing these cards.

Funny that the BH in Florida is 50 engines newer by serial number, but is 475 older/lower in tractor serial numbers then the one for sale in N.C..

I remember another one , where the serial number was older in sequence than the motor number in sequence. I just think they were on a shelf and they pulled the first one they came to.....not necessarily the one that had been there the longest.

Hi to all. Never figured to have a Bush Hog but opportunity knocked and now I own one. The hood says V-4-7. Serial number tag says V-4 from Selma. The serial number is 1385. The engine is Wisconsin S-7D. Serial number is 3958131. Picked it up less than a mile from my house. By the pictures maybe the experts can tell me what is right and what is wrong with it. Hauled it home and in less than 1/2 hour was driving it. No attachments other than a homemade blade on the rear.
Maybe the registry should have the location of the tractor in it. I am in MN.
I understand there is another one in town too, if I get some time I will talk to the owner and get his tractor info.

Welcome to Hog Heaven! That is a nice one! Original seat cushions (someone added the braces in rear, but you likely figured that). The latch to hold the clutch down I believe is an owner built add-on. Being it has the pulley on the flywheel and the starter push button on the dash, I would say it used to have a Delco starter/generator on it. Other than the starter and the grill emblem, and headlights, I don't see anything else missing! Oh, not an OE muffler, but that's aok.
