On my V4-6 tag, they definitely used an "I" for the number 1.  My serial number is:  1498

Well I looked at all of mine, and the "1's" all look like ones??? My D4-7 does not have any "1's" in it.....

Like Daniel said, they probably used what ever they had and maybe could not find the "1" stamp that day or maybe it was damaged.

Thanks for the serial number info.....so far all the D4-7's serial numbers have begun with the number "7".

I talked to with Bob Simmons back last weekend. He and I compared notes on serial numbers....just a little info to share that might interest you. Still need T-63 serial numbers, more JB numbers, more HD numbers, more V series numbers.......help me out!! Send me what you have if you have not already done it!! I am just getting started collecting them!!

T-63   earliest 1627  latest is 2034

D4-7  earliest 7164  latest is 7892

D4-10 earliest 8248 latest is 10295   ( I have a 10230 and 10295 both with Tecumseh- there was a letter that went out to the dealers stating that starting with serial number xxxxx all D4-10's would come with Tecumseh motors- will try to find the letter and post it)

D4-12 earliest 101 latest 283

HD12 earliest 5404 latest 6254  ( I question the 6254 could be right but want to try to find another 6000 serial numbered HD-12- I wonder if this is a 5254?)

JBI  2663

JBII 2838

JVII 2587

V3-6  earliest 6003 latest 6038   (only have these two serial numbers

In a letter dated July 21, 1969, it states that all D4-10 tractors beginning with 10152 will be equipped with a Tecumseh 10hp motor.
It also states that beginning with serial #10216 all D4-10 tractors will be less the rear pto. It will be an option and the part number for the kit is S4954, list price will be $25.00.

My V4-8 up at George's place is #1613  Galesburg tag.

Daniel has some good eyesight because that is the correct info on his tractor's tag. I saw George didn't have time to contribute on this thread and was getting the info for George's Bush Hogs and also wanted to add Daniel's, but I see he already knows it.

Thanks the more we collect the more we will learn.

I can say that so far 7000's are D4-7's, 8000 to 10,000 are D4-10's, D4-12 have all been 100 to 283

The rest have mixed numbers....but maybe that will change and a pattern will form for them as well. I got another 10-12 serial numbers in the past couple of days.

Keep them coming!!

I just ran across this sight, glad to see these old tractors have a following.

Maybe someone can help me date mine.

Hood says T63, the serial number tag says TE63 # 1873

It has a Wisconsin 7SD engine

No mention of city or state where made
