I have a bitmap file and it needs to be converted to 256 color or less. I have no idea what that means; if I send you the file could somebody do it for me? Or explain here how I would do it?

What are you trying to do with this .bmp file?  If it is post it in here or another forum all I do (if you are using Windows) is open the file with PAINT and save the file as a .jpeg.  Then you will be able to do a lot more with it in that format..  Why they have all the different formats is just to pi$$ folks off I think!

John, the one I have is the same thing but a little less blurry. But, that one will work just as well.

Ryan, when you open it, try "Save As" and see if there isn't an option for what you need.

Ryan, a great little program for working with image files is IrFanview.  It is free and is very easy to use, I wish they had a Linux version.  You can change the file format, re-size an image, do basic modifications etc.

That's the one I use. You can change them to 16 bit color and cut the file size down a bunch.

I like Irfanview also because I'm computer stupid and it's easy to resize my pictures for posting.

I forgot all about that program.

Irfan view was really ahead of its time.
