My wife and I recently recently signed up to start Rehabing wide animals that were injured. Well today we got our first animal. Though it's rare in NC but our first animal is a Flying Squirrel. It's quite the interesting animal.

It was found in Greensboro, NC and was brought to a Vets office in Winston Salem. One of our friends works at that vet and gave us a call to see if we could 'rehab' the squirrel. The animal fell out of a tree and was found lethargic. The vet did a examination and was found to have small amount of blood on his back but no obvious signs of where the blood came from. Upon us getting the squirrel it was still lethargic and very cautious of it's movements. We stopped by Kmart and got a cage and some food. Once the squirrel got some food and water it is now wide open. I am thinking it was 'tired' due to it being a nocturnal animal.  We plan to return the animal to the wild in a few minutes after our little girl goes to bed because she will have a throw a outrageous fit.

I'm a little confused, or a little behind, or a little tired on a Friday night, or something like that.  What is Dora the Explorer?

Flying Squirrel fell out of a tree and was found lethargic.

My knee jerk reaction is the squirrel either needs flying lessons or renamed to "Falling Squirrel"

J/k, thanks for helping out the critter, good luck.

Good for you and the Wife!  We used to do dog rescue and it can be taxing so I commend the both of you.  I would imagine wild animals would be a bit more difficult.

They are really rare here also. They are never seen due to being nocturnal.

We used to have quite a few of them, but the only time we ever saw them was when one of the beautiful little guys would glide too close to the barbed wire fence and catch a membrane on a barb and get hung up. If I got there before a fox came by I could unhook them and set them free, but all too often all I found was a tuft of skin and the softest fur imaginable snagged on a barb. Could bore you guys to death with stories of the wild things we've had get hurt by fences and tried to help.

We don't have cable or satillite TV, only antenna.

We watch local news & weather, and Public TV....I'm too far behind the times for anything else!

As long as they aren't Taliban flying squirrels we will be alright.  Last thing we need is little rodents with bomb vests.
