Nope Astros had 5 x 5 up through '02 or 03 when they went to a 6 lug so using a 2WD truck axle to keep same bolt pattern is a no brainer, the Astro's used same size rear as the Fbodies 7.65" , I replaced the ring/pinion in my Astro that came from a T/A rear. Bad part was, the center section of rear axle was offset almost 2 inches to one side for some reason, can't remember why so you couldn't just swap in an axle from a truck.

I cannot make a snide comment, I think it's just cool, but then I also had a '95 Astro with 5" lift kit on it and 31" A/T's. :D

All that one needs is some lift, bigger tires, a V8 and your off. Funny how that pics is just now making it's rounds, I remember seeing probably that same van back in '05 when I bought my Astro.

Local fab guy took a 68 Suburban, stretched frame, added tandem axles and custom bed, now that was cool.
