The mailbox stories remind me. My parents had problems with mailbox baseball so I got one of those real big mailboxes and set a small one in the middle. Then filled in around it with concrete. We even painted it red to attract them lol. I was in their garage one night and saw them coming. That kid swung the bat and it bounced off hitting the back car window busting it. God only knows how his arm felt. They never came back again. Problem solved. They kept that mailbox till about a year ago.

That's terrible about your battery. I think you need to set some traps and put up a warning sign to prevent them coming back to sue. A couple well place holes or claw traps should solve your problem.

Unfortunately, anything that will work against those rats is illegal and up here we'd get sued and end up in jail instead of them! However, there are times when it would almost be worth it!!

Uh be careful about those imobile mailboxes guys. In Iowa any item between the fences is on the roadway. Putting an imovable object on the roadway that could cause injury is or can be considered Criminal Negligence and could cost you your property in a lawsuit.

Believe me I investigated the possiblity. It was not kids taking out my mailbox every year, It was the DOT snowplow. Funny thing is once th driver found out we had graduated in the same class, it never happened again? I think Steve was doing it on purpose?

I want to build a mailbox stand that is just a swinging arm and put a steel plate beside the box. Then if someone hits it the box will just spin round and round.

I have seen stuff like this in Ohio.  They have problems with snow plows knocking off boxes in the winter so they make them where they will spin around like you are talking.  Just weld a collar around the piece of pipe you have in the ground and then put another piece down on top of it, not welded to the pipe and put the arm for the mail box off it.  A small counter weight to bablance it may help.  When it is hit, it will simply spin around.  Shouldn't be hard.

I have seen one just like that on Hwy 14 just south of Marshaltown,Ia.
He just used a car axle and clamped the wheelbeariing and put a swing arm on it.
It was on a curve and when it got icy people slid off the road and hit it.
My brother who was a body and fender guy actually hit it, got a minor scratch on the front of his car, but it caved in the quarter panel when it swung back around.

That swinging back around part is what i was thinking. I was wondering if I could make it extend when it swung around so it would bust the back window out.
