Hello guys, a few weeks ago i posted a question on how/what i needed to attach a 31 tiller to my rf 112. I want to thank everyone again for the questions that i had answered. Since that time i have mounted the my 31 tiller onto a 212. this afternoon as i dropped it into the ground for the first time i noticed that it throws the dirt back twoards the tractor, and the dull edges of the tines are doing the digging, not the sharp edges. These symptoms tell me the tiller might be turning backwards and i cannot think of why. This would be the first garden tractor tiller i have owned and am wondering what would cause the tiller to turn backward. i feel like the belts are on correctly, it runs smooth and quiet.....any advice woukld be great thanks........appologize for no pics on this topic

I am not familiar at all with this tiller, but could someone have swapped the tine sets side to side?  That or could the gearbox have been messed with inside? Many gearboxes can be reversed by swapping which side the gears sit on the shafts.

Did you put a half twist in the long belt that runs from the intermediate drive pulley back to the tiller? If not, you have to do this.

Reverses the direction!  Pretty sure that should end your dirt throwing problems.  There is a certain direction to put the half twist in though.  I have to check out the manual each time I do it.

This thread might help.

Half twist or figure 8 belt usage is to change direction. Sounds like Troy knows.

:reading_the_manual:  Yep, not only a knee pad sometimes :D

P.S. Had a JD snowblower that did this too, read the book 3 or 4 times to get it right.

Didn't know they ran figure 8's in the belts!  Not seen that used myself in many many years.
