My neighbor has a massey 8 which he uses to pull a lawn roller. it has a manual transmision. The problem is when the tractor is used regulary everthing is fine but when the tractor sits for about a month or more there is a masssive puddle of transmision fluid on the ground it looks lihe the right seal. Why does it leak when sitting for long periods of time only. There is not even a drop when sitting for a week . :wallbanging:

So, it sounds like a monthly happening.

Tell your neighbour to be patient, and understanding with her. :D

If the seal needs replacement it can be a bear of a job to get the wheel hubs and pulleys off those 1250 Peerless transmissions to split the case. Are you sure the correct viscosity gear oil is in the transmission. I think it takes 90wt and if someone put 30w motor oil in there it would make it prone to leaking. Also, if it's over filled it would have more of a tendency to leak when sitting for long periods if the axle seal is weak anyway.
