Well I'm going to go get one tonight and give it ago. probably tomorrow afternoon.

I would eventually like to get a ground driven unit like The John Deere Flex planter to mount on my 3 point for larger plots of corn and beans, But I'm not planting that much of either this year.

I want seat time not foot time

I agree 100%. I'm going to take a look at those plates and see of some of the holes could be filled with JB weld or a hot melt glue. The way it's working now I'm probably spending twice as much as needed for seed.

I have one but have not used it for a couple of years. It seems to hang up and it will sow more seeds than you need. No problem if you do not mind thinning but I hate to pull something up that is growing.
I use a four foot piece of 1-1/2" PVC with a tee at the bottom that I can put a 1' piece of 3/4" pvc in. I use the 3/4" piece as a guide for how far apart I need the plants. The PVC keeps me from having to bend over and I know exactly how many seeds are planted with the proper spacing. You can put shorter or longer 3/4" pieces in the tee if you wish to change your spacing. It is my redneck planter. Don

Got a pic or two of it?

I'd like to see it and possibly steal your idea. Haha

It seems looks like it works well for you. Do you drop each seed in the tube by hand? Would it work good for corn you think?

You drop each seed by hand.  I had my grand daughters helping me this year. I had one putting a seed in the tube. I told the other one that if the hole did not have 2 seeds to put a seed in in the hole. I heard her saying, "not 2",  'not 2".  Don

May have come up with a solution for the corn plate on the Earthway planter. I planted a row of sweetcorn today and because I was low on seed I only filled the hopper one fourth full. It planted like a charm. When a full hopper was used it felt like the plate was catching and it would double feed a lot. With less corn in the hopper it fed very smoothly.
