Hi my name is Kurt. I'm looking for some info on a power-trac garden tractor. Mfg. #IM 990162,Serial# 06x-9461,Article # 89-1271,Patent #'s 2,368,290-2,397,310. Looks like the shift indicator tab is broken off. This model has three levers coming up to the handle bars. The one on the left doesn't seem to do anything??? The middle one engages the wheels/ drive. The one on the right is just hanging there. Any info is appreciated. Are there manuals and parts available? Thank you,Kurt

The PowerTrac sold by Montgomery Ward 1959-1962 was supplied by Simplicity but have never seen the 990162 Simplicity model number before.
Go to
http://www.simplicit...support/manuals
and download the manuals for 990148 and 990155. I think one of them includes the 990159.

The 1961 MW catalog is posted in the Files of this Group
http://groups.yahoo....gtractors1961a/

What you have is likely similar to the Simplicity VC model.

Ok I got some new numbers. They are off original engine. Model 19   Type #706029   Serial #596306   Can you tell anything from these?

B&S engine serial 596306 was made in March of 1959 so likely a 1959 model tractor. The 1960 models most likely came out in October of 1959 so there is no guarantee. Depends how long it took for that engine to land on a tractor.

The model 19's came out as 7 hp and this was bumped up to 7-1/4 hp in 1962 for the same engine. Guess that was the start of the hp race.

Have the parts list for this engine if you need it and possibly the service manual also.

Garry
