Onan Points Question

Just got a wheel horse 416-8 1989 with an onan 16 hp motor, model # P216G-I/10779B , i have power to the coil buy no pulse when turning over the motor, meaning no spark, where are the points located? the net says they are no longer available. are they? or can it be converted to electronic points. has anyone done this?  thanks for the help

The P series have no points.  Under the flywheel, there is a trigger coil and a trigger ring on the crank, just behind the flywheel.  Make sure the ring is intact.  With this system, there are only 4 things that can go wrong with spark.  1: bad ignition coil 2: bad trigger coil 3: broken trigger ring 4: no DC to coil.  But, points are still available for older ignitions using them.
