Ok, as I had posted in a previous thread, starter issues on the 1972 ST/12.  Well the original starter was fried, so I ordered what Amazon, Ebay, and a Sears forum claimed to be the replacement.  It is not!!  I found ways to shim the starter as it did not match up, I then ran into the problem of the starter engaging and then sticking out full length.  I fixed that issue so that it goes back in (most of the time).  It's one issue after the next.  I have had enough, I'm frustrated and I just want to be done with it.  PLEASE, if anyone has a starter, I will pay what you want plus the shipping.  The number on the starter is Tecumseh 32817.  Someone, somewhere has to have one of these starters.

Just incase anyone is curious what exactly it looks like....(these were used on many tractors not just Sears)

Can you use the internal parts of the new one in the old one? or maybe just change the two end pieces? I would have liked to seen the replacement that you are having trouble with.

Holy carp, I came rushing into this thread ready to perform CPR! Doug damn near dialed 9-1-1. 'Tecumseh starter help' would of worked well, instead.

"Rich, put the gun away! Everything's fine."

"Gerald, put the extinguisher back, no fire."

"Why do Bill and Doug have their socks and shoes off? WTH?"

I only see one used one like yours on Ebay right now, but they want $124.00 w/free shipping. Maybe a site sponsor might have something? http://www.ebay.com/...=item5652a85847

If it was that simple I would have done it already. I know a plac that rebuilds starters and it isnt always cheap. Figured I would try here first.

Check with Bob,  I was looking for a L110 starter a while back and he knew where to get one.  I found one local so I didn't use his but he may be able to help you.

That should be a Tecumseh HH120 in there right?

Then this should work. I've got 3 or 4 of these from them on my Tech's.

Yea that's the replacement that I have.  I have a buddy coming over to look at it later.  He believes the bendix is freezing up in the starter and it was probably like that from the factory.  I may have just gotten a defective one.  I just figured it may be easier to find someone on here that had one laying around.  It blows my mind that with the number of members we have here and the amount of people that it shows have "viewed" this thread, no1 has a starter..........hmmmmmmmmmmm

Wish i coud help. I may (already lots missing from it) have one on a massey down in the field, but I am saving what little is left of it as a parts tractor to keep my Uncles MF12 and my Scrap Massey going.

My Dad took the starter from his MF165 over for rebuild (laboring bad) a week ago. New brushes, bushings, either new bendix or cleaned old, cleaned and tested commutator and washed the interior to get any junk out. Picked it up at the end of the day, bill was like $65...

Hasn't turned that tractor over like that since I was a kid.
