I have a Pearless 3 spd hi/lo transaxle from a Sears SS 14 (I think) that looks like would work on my Craftsman. I plan to split it open to see if it is worth salage or parts. I removed the pullies, axle hubs, shifter, and all the case bolts around the middle. So far. Any other things I need to be aware of before I take the rubber mallett to it?

1. Water, no oil came out, (lite brown sludge can be seen inside.

2. shifter lever twists about 60 degrees (this will need fixed)

3. Axle seals are shot, and will need replaced.

Well, It's split.... Yuck. made a mess, lookes like baby direa, and cleaned up about the same, minus the smell. Took a whole roll of paper towels. Now to figure how to clean the innards. Thinking loading on the trailer and pressure washing in the middle of the crushed rock driveway..

Thanks, this is a learning process for me too. The benifet would mean a spare transaxle for Hulk II. Looking at the way this is built, large gears, and needle bearings instead of bushings, etc it seems very rebuildable. The Challange.

1 Cleaning so it can be futher disambled and inspected.

2. Fixing the Shifter.

3. Locating (selected) replacement needle bearings.

The rest (Gears and Case) look good, and I haven't found any broke parts or metal savings.

Ok, I took a lot of pictures of the gear removal, mainly to help with re-assembly. Here are some of them. The cases are out back draining.

Let me know if you need a gear out of this. I don't think I will be refurbishing it. I have all the gears in a box, they look ok, the needle bearings and seals are shot.

I probably will, but I don't know when I will tear it apart. Might be a while! All other gears worked fine, just nothing in second.
