I have a woods zero turn for sale and a guy messaged me today and asked if I'd be interested in trading for a John Deere SST16. It runs and mows. He said he can't figure out the controls.

Well... I am thinking about trading.

I need as much information about these things as possible.

What to look for? Whats it worth?

He did say it had 400 hours on it and the hood is cracked.

As soon as he sends me pictures I will be sure to post them.

Just anything you can tell me.

John Deere's attempt at a zero turn LT. The front wheels are like the front ones on a ztr, they're spindled from the top so they can spin around 360. Some folks had good luck with them, others not so much. Front end issues, hydro tranny issues, and the total lack of parts availability. Just not many out there, parts are scarce. I would keep the Woods.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. I have tendonitis in both elbows and it's diffucult for me to push the handles for long periods of times. That's the only reason I was considering it.

Half GT and half ZTR, and from what I have heard you better be up on your electronics/hydraulics

as it's steer by wire :biting_nails: :reading_the_manual:  :D

P.S. One of few JD flops, even marketing couldn't help it

One other thing about the SST's, there are no attachments or accessories available. You might be able to put a bagger on the 42" standard deck, but good luck finding one. Otherwise, nothing else was built for these.

Although, they were way ahead of their time for the amount of plastic they used on these.

I've only worked on two of them and yes, total flop. Wouldn't even bother with pictures.

Hm... What about a John Deere Sabre 1846?

I sold my zero turn due to tendonitis in my elbows.

Just a big box store tractor, don't think it will help your tendonitis at all.

Do you want new or used?, sounds like a power steering unit is needed.

P.S. What about the Woods you have,

maybe moving handles, or adding onto them, adding spring assisted ? just a few thoughts.

I already sold my zero turn.

The Sabre John Deeres were manufactured by John Deere weren't they?  They were not MTD's that just had a John Deere sticker on them.

The one I am looking at is 18 hp Vanguard with a 46" cut. The hydrostatic is in the hand controlled instead of foot controlled.

I really have a budget of 800 dollars or under.

Yes that's correct. Being that it's a entry level tractor I would question the steering set-up, considering your elbow problems.

But with that said, my LA125 which is like what you are looking at cuts good, so maybe a good test ride may help you decide if it would work for you, explain your concerns to seller and see if they will let you use it for a hour to see how you feel.

P.S. Not sure about the hydro in that unit, many of the tractors with the K46 have failed, so thats something to look into.
