Is there a definitive way to tell the difference between a 64 and 65 Bolens 600? I've got a good friend who rescued one and through my research on this forum (great forum by the way) We've figured out it's either a 64 or 65.

His father had a Bolens so he's decided to restore this one. Most everything is painted and he's working on the engine at the moment. He's a mechanic so this restoration is coming very easy to him.

I do know that he'd like to find an original seat and a mowing deck for it so if anyone knows anyone looking to sell or get rid of either of those two items I'd love to hear about it.

I'm also looking for pictures of these little guys completely restored. He doesn't have a computer or the internet so it'd have to be something of a decent size that I could print out for him.

I've already printed out the "History of Bolens" for him that I found somewhere on this site and I've printed out the parts manual for him.

I guess in general if anyone's got any helpful hints or information he'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks guys!

Jonathan

Hello Jonathan :welcome: to GT-talk . I personly don't know much about the 600's but A fellow by the name of Bolens1000 should be able to get it to the T As for the mower and seat your best bet will be to look on Craigslist or post a Wanted add in the Classafied section on the fourm

And

Welcome to GTT. There is a table somewhere around here that lists each model by year. Try this document  http://groups.yahoo....Specifications/ you will need the exact model number off of the data plate. Good Luck, Rick

Welcome to GTT!

Do you have any pictures of the tractor?

The 64' and 65' were just about identical and hard hard to tell, they even Used the same Model number (180-04 or 181-04) Depending on if you had electric start or not.

The Model number is 180-04... That's the only thing we can make out on the ID tag....

Funny thing is the colors he chose were from memory... And when he saw me taking pictures he got all mad because we hadn't taken any before pics.

We ended up getting it for free from a friend of mine who keeps fish. We were there picking up an aquarium and Bob noticed the tractor sitting in the back. I inquired about it and he told me if I came back and got it that day we could just have it.

It was very rusty and had loads of different colored paint on it...
