The only gas water heaters that are convertible are the ones made for Mobile Homes AFAIK.  I seriously doubt you would find anyone that would be willing to convert a new tank for the liability issues raised above.  A new tank is going to be much more efficient than an old one due to the improved insulation and burner, and the lack of any sediment in the bottom of the tank.  Your new 40 Gal should give you a little more capacity than the old one and maybe lots more depending on how bad the old one is.

Well did some looking this morning and found a 50 gallon one local and it is now installed and heating up then a final check to make sure all is well and hope to be done. Now things are better on the wife end lol

One thing about when things break, once you get things right, you should be set for some time.  At least that's what I tell myself till something different breaks!   :smilewink:

My wife was saying the same thing until i reminder her she had not had one either :watch_over_fence:   To bad i did not think that thru fast enough :biting_nails:
