I found these pictures on the internet. I spend time on occasion just looking at different machines I find on the internet and learning something new or discover now concepts in build and design. I am a newb to engine stuff I got into tractors about two or so years ago and every sense then I've absorbing whatever info I can. This particular image of someones awesome build of a radio flyer roadster, I call it. It shows an engine with what appears to be four exhaust pipes I guess, coming off the crankcase I see a exhaust line running under the cart but I was wondering what this setup does performance wise for the engine? Could bug someone for a little insight on this little project.

The things on top of the engine are just for looks. They were common on older hot rods with the performance intakes that have aton of single barrel carbs. I can't remember what they are called though. I managed to find a picture on google to give you an idea of what they are normally used for. That is a sweet hot rod wagon too.

The gas tank in the front scares me!  If he hit something it could cost you your sight or worse!  The pipes are ornamental and it sure does look cool!  The engine & drive system is much like the ones they use on go cart racing tracks all over but those are designed with the engines (& gas tanks) on the back of the cart..  It's pretty neat looking for a show piece..

That engine Appears to be a honda Gx340 or a Gx390.. the Exhaust "Thing" is mounted on the fuel tank mounts/tabs on the block they appear to do nothing just part of the Theme ... the only benefit (if they are aluminum) would be that it would conduct some heat from the block...and radiate it into the air...

But its quite need contraption .

that thing is awesome! it would be cool to have and cruise around the shows on. it appears the four exhaust stacks are the owners attempt to look like old school fuelie velocity stacks. looks cool though.

I doubt if anything on the setup that you were asking about is function: I think it is all the "cool" factor. 

 

All it needs to be really fun is a Clinton engine like the classics, not a modern Honda.

Hi,

That setup is to simulate individual or "stack" injectors. Other than Nostalgia cars, the sprint cars of today use stack injectoin systems. Each individual stack feed one cylinder of an engine, had a throttle plate, and at least one jet/nozzle that feed gasoline/alcohol to that cylinder.

In this case it is only for looks.

All vary useful info. I noticed there is a line running in-between the stacks to some sort of mechanism. Any ideas? Is it some sort of a fuel pump?

it looks like there is a vaccum fuel pupm tucked inbetween those stacks.

They are called "Velocity Stacks", designed to speed up the air going into the motor. They were in the. 60's when you had a row of 2 barrel Webbers or Stomberg carbs, some of your early injection system used them.

I agree on this motor they for show, as we're most of them.

A buddy of mine had one of those intakes and was going to install it on one of his cars but ended up just selling it..  They are a PITA to set up..  But once you got them right they rocked!!

My guess would be a Honda or Honda clone engine, 6.5hp or so

with a Comet "Tork a Verter" setup on it,

The stacks are a fake Hilborn fuel injection setup, the thing in the middle between the stacks is a fake barrel valve, the barrel valve controlled the amount of fuel relative to throttle position. My dad ran a Hilborn on a 32 Ford in the late 60's early 70's, the injection setup is on a shelf im my garage.
