Greeting:

This ia available at an online auction near me. It is listed as "John Deere Garden Tractor PTO Attachment". The picture is all I have for now, going to take a look at it tomorrow morning, and should have more pictures and/or video, and hopefully part numbers, etc.

Does anybody recognize it?

It's the p.t.o adapter for the 120,140,and 300 series.I believe it is the 542 p.t.o.It'll have that on the serial tag.

I agree also keep in mine it takes a pulley to install and use this it bolts to the pto pulley on the tractor that's the hard part to find most of the time

Thanks for all your info. If it is the 542 (540?) PTO adapter, what kind of tractor attachments is it used with? Tillers?

Anyway, I'm off to see the wizard (the adapter) and hope to have more info and other view pictures.

More later, Harlan

Used to run farm implements, mainly an elevator or maybe a log splitter. Not much hp to work with.

These were used so farmers did not have to use a larger tractor to do small tasks{run hay elevator some grain equipment stuff like that }there are no garden tractor attachments that use these that I know of

Did you know that all of these round fender 540 PTO Units are all serial numbered the same? I find that quite odd, but it's true. At one time I had four of these, and everyone of them had the same serial number. The only difference was, two of them had just 540 as the type, and the other two actually had 540 PTO UNIT spelled out. I thought you might find this interesting.

ckjakline and Trav1s were right. I'm sure it is to run grain elevators, etc. from a garden tractor. It has E0542 on the tag. It turns freely and is in pretty good shape.

After inspecting it, I'm sure it would mount on the front of my 318 (and others) like a snowblower would. That would put its pulley right under electronic clutch. It's really kind of neat, but since I don't live on a farm, I don't really have a use for it.

The on-line auction doesn't start until Monday at 6PM, but the last time I looked it already has a bid of $58. Here are three of the pictures I took today.

Are you still interested in it Harlan, or are you not going to bid on it? Depending on who's watching it, it could sell for as high as $400.00. Just giving you a heads up.

The last one I saw on CL around here, the asking price was $300 or $350. Lasted about 3 hours and it was gone. Collectors item more than anything, imo.
