This is a Sears tractor, right? I'm not sure it's a 1972 but I can't ID the year. The hood looks like it says Custom 10XL. Thoughts?

Yes its a XL10 custom but it should be a 1971 or 72,those were the last two years for that style and the only two years to have a gear drive starter.

Should be a small plate behind shifter right in front of seat. If so, post the 917.xxxxx model number, we can give exact year.

CL ad stated it needs ignition switch, make sure yo get the correct one. That motor is most likely an SSI ignition, wrong switch will send 12+ volts to the module and fry it...big money to replace or find one or then you would have to convert to an auto coil ignition.

Good thing it comes with a deck and blower, standard suburban front attachment or decks will not work on a custom. Rear 3 point stuff will though.
