My mower keeps sucking up tons of grass on the flywheel screen when mowing, any suggestions?

Did some heavy mowing today, the seal on the rear end is still slightly leaking, I guess I will have to fix it in the winter

For some reason when I try to mow in 3rd gear the mower either quits and don't cut or that NAPA belt slips moving faster through the grass, in 2nd gear  it works fine, but I would rather drive faster?? Comments

You won't have that issue if you put a JD belt on it as JD uses a special belt that you can't bye anywhere else that I have found and I have searched a lot of belt suppliers.

I originally ordered and installed the correct JD belt per their parts manual that Travis gave me and it was TOO SHORT, I went to the JD dealer and talked to them and they said WOW, didnt provide me with and alternative part number that would fit? Anyone that can help me find a JD number that will fit I would appreciate it, 2nd gear takes too long to mow!!

I found some info about this and will post it up when Spain gets back to me.  In short, there are multiple varibles to consider when buying belts for these SF tractors which are:

  • Tractor serial number
  • Deck serial number

From what I can tell there are a total of 4 belts that are available for these combos.  To say differently:

  • tractor "a" + deck "a" = belt "w"
  • tractor "a" + deck "b" = belt "x"
  • tractor "b" + deck "a" = belt "y"
  • tractor "b" + deck "b" = belt "z"

More on this when Spain and I figure this out.  I do love a good puzzle.

As for the trouble with the dealer... not to diss on the parts guys but most know how to use a computer but not do the repairs.  Mechanical knowledge does go a long way.

Alright, you made me do it!  I pulled the belt cover off of the 110 deck (serial - 100,670) and the belt on my deck is the same as yours.  The pulleys look to be the same size too.

But there is the deal, the belt you are needing is #22 in the picture attached and the part number is M40223

http://www.greenpart...0223_p_541.html

And specs are as follows from the above link:

Blade to blade

Measures:
  • 87.100-inch effective length*
  • 0.500-inch width

The belt you have is from engine to deck and I thought that is the one you are fight this round.  There is one belt used on both early and late 39 decks and that is m40223.

I looked at the local dealer web page shows those belts also available, my deck is Part E0660 SN 111763M

Also on the JD parts catalog when you go to my tractor SN bring up implements mounted Mower, the belt PN shows  M40223 or M41960  FOR TRACTORS:
          110-8HP  (S.N. -271000)
          110-10HP (S.N. -284000)
          112-12HP (S.N. -259000)

Travis I looked back on my Page 23 and I had found that Part Number before and never ordered it!!
