Drained gas tank today in a glass Jar, gas appears to be clean.

I know what happened now, before I tore the machine down, I rebuilt the carb and put gas in the dirty gas tank, this it put crud in the carb, later deep cleaned and dried the gas tank.

So the crud is from the first run up dirty gas tank, my fault!

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt...

Went backwards today,

1. Checked gas bowl on gas tank it too had rust chips, removed gas tank again dumped gas it had some rust chips, Im soaking it now with rust remover liquid then I will probably swish some gravel around in there and maybe stick the pressure washer tip in there afterwards.

2. Remove carb and disassembled and cleaned with carb spray, looks good now , found float out of adjustment it was set down and at an angle, had to adjust tab

3. Removed points and condenser, had to take muffler off and side supports to get to them, points don't look that bad but will replace, the condenser looks really old and has frayed wires, the wire to the points and coil doesn't look that good either Im going to replace it back to the quick disconnect.

4. Installed in line fuel filter

to set the float you should use a 11/64" drill bit

as per Kohler service manual

if you do not have the Kohler service manual you can download it from GTtalk site

I feel your pain! I haven't pulled the welch plugs on my walbro carb yet, so my 140 craps out every time I run her. Hang in there, these old tractors are worth it!

Pulled out carb jets and cleaned, made sure float was down and straight with carb up side down.

Took everyone's advice and pulled breaker and condenser, glad I did it was a wired mess and had frayed wires I think it was held on by one, the points look ok but worn, I don't think they are Deere or kolhner points, they say made in japan on them probably wrong part, the condenser was super old.

Gas tank is still soaking with rust remover liquid

I found OEM breakers and condenser cheaper than the ones made for JD and that JD sales, But I lucked out an Ebay guy had a new JD Breaker and Condensor still in the plastic that he bought at an estate sale, he did  not know what JD engine it went to, it goes to Mine, I won the bid at $9.00 for both, that's the best deal I got, the cheapest I could find for OEM was $25.00

hope you get it started and run soon

good luck and you with have fun driving it around and remembering all the problems you have had

I'm watching, too. I always like to see other owners issues, since I usually wind up having similar things go wrong! Hang in there, it looks good.

Installed new JD points, set points installed Kolhner Condensor kit with wires for points and coil (This Part Number Wasnt called out in parts manual but hope it will work) Fixed ignition cut off wire that goes to coil, Installed cleaned out gas tank, added fuel looks really clean now.

Tommorow will try to start it.
