Only state I've run into this situation.

I'm still trying to figure out what the heck those laws/rules are trying to accomplish.

A money maker for the state is what I've always thought.

Pennsylvania Menu:

Pig Stomach

Stuffed Peppers

Corn beef and cabbage

Spanish rice

Hamberger stew

Mashed taters and beef gravy

Dandilion dressing

Deviled eggs

Pickled beets

Red beet eggs

Fried turnips

Potato cakes

Souce

Ham, potatoes and stringbeans

Wedding soup

Baked corn

rubarb pie

and Si Futz and Reva!

Don't forget chicken corn soup and chicken and waffles.  I know some people that think those two are insane combinations.

And we can't forget Shady Maple, the biggest buffet around.

Ain't that the truth.  If you go away hungry its your own fault!

A few more for the menu.

Haystacks - start withcorn chips as a base then a layer of mashed taters, lettuce, onion, tomato, and topped with sour cream and ranch

Hobo meal - place burger on tin foil and taters on top. Pile veggies on top. Wrap tightly and throw in camp fire.

And we can't forget Shady Maple, the biggest buffet around.

Well of course, I would ride tractor-trailer with dad and we stopped at Martin's Trailside Express across the street. Just seeing the place makes you hungry!

Some things for the folks in Lancaster. You can determine what most of the population is by the name.

Martin and Smoker is common for Mennonites

Esh, Beiler, Kauffman, Lapp, Fisher and Smucker means Amish

Herr's, Hess', and Martin's make a large majority of Lancaster( Lan-kister).

In Meadville Pa  we had the Talon zipper plant that had pre-dominence  ( a big word  ho-ho ) .  We also have the still vibrant Channellock  Plant .    As I understand it the zippers from Meadville went all the way to the moon .  I do not recall any offers in merchandising of pliers being offered with zippers for a package deal .

The remnants of the old Talon plant have been involved in a big P - ing  match  for possible re-use as  additional courthouse space. The hallways of any new buildings could house some really interesting artwork .

Phrase, Run in the ruts-does not mean put your tires in the ruts. It means run beside the ruts, which
pushes the dirt back in the said ruts....LOL Or really it just means drive down a PA state road!

I know exactly where your at John. The Burnham plant is just in off the Harrisburg Pike.

Good & Plenty is a great place to eat along with Plain & Fancy. They still don't hold sails to Shady Maple though!

I work with a guy from Philly, he gets mad when I call him a Yankee, well he's really a Damn Yankee.

A Yankee comes to visit, a Damn Yankee decides to stay.

And with that Yankee twang he's hard to understand sometimes.

I just don't get the local love affair with Shady Maple. The two times I've eaten there the food was HORRIBLE. I know it's all you can eat but what good is that if it's no good???

BTW. Anyone been to either of this year's mud sales yet?

My wife is from another part of the country (Okie) so I get constant comments on local phrases she finds odd. Her number 1 is when we say something is all. For those not familiar, it's used when something is empty or gone..ie. "my soda is all."

Of course she is always "fixin' to"......

So your more of a quality kinda guy and not a quantity kinda guy ?

I've eaten there, but it's been a long, long time. I don't remember how it was. But I'm sure I got my $$'s worth. Most every buffet has at least a few things that are decent.

You have to pick a day during the week, no weekends. I still prefer the local diner or a steakhouse.
