Just a fyi.....some of my D4-10 have been positive grounded instead of negative grounded. I am no expert and not sure when they made the change but at some point they did change to the more common negative ground.

Sacsr, Thanks a lot.  I am glad you told me about that.  Mine is a D4-7 do you think it could be positive ground as well?  I am thinking it may be an early machine but I do not know anything about it for sure just yet.  How does one date on of these?  I haven't really looked at the number tag other than just to see that it has one.  I am really looking forward to tinkering with it maybe next weekend if I get the chance.

The only way to date the tractor is use the serial number on the motor. The Bolens forum has a link to the E
Wisconsin site.
I am not sure about the grounding. May want to call the previous owner and ask.

D4-7 is a nice model to have.
