I'm thinking about doing a carb kit on my HB112.  It has a B&S 12 hp horizontal single (300421 0127) with the old 2 peice flow jet updraft carb that is slowly weeping gas.  My manual lists the carb kit as a 299720.  My local dealer quotes $58.14 plus taxes.

I've seen references saying carb kits 520720 &/or 391071 will also work.  They seem cheaper but may have spare parts.

Any idea if they (or others) will work?  Any of my Canadian friends know of a cheaper source?

The 391071 looks like it may work. I believe that is the kit for the Vertical shaft engines? Do you use Ebay at all? because the kits are much cheaper than the price you gave, The 299720 had a buy it now of $23.00 and there are some you can bid on also.

The 391071 has a buy it now of $12.00

I didn't find any of the 520720 on there.

I've looked at ebay, and yes they are cheaper ($28.15), but all the vendors seem to be in the US.  That means with shipping ($14.26) plus import charges ($8.51), I'm back to $50 for a rebuild kit.  If I could find a Canadian vendor ...   :dancingbanana:

Or, I could just suck it up & understand that's the price I have to pay for owning an older tractor.   :(  :mad2:

Not to run down your local shop, but they either need to switch suppliers or stop trying to make millions off of parts!  I've got the 299720 kit in stock, but it will be the same as you can get anywhere else.

$27.88 from that source.
