Those are professionally made for moving small airplanes around. You sit on the hood and face the plane behind the tractor. And, move the plane around by its front wheel.

I think that would make a great base for a GT lift to pick them up and carry them into the shop. I don't remember who built those, but I've seen them around before.

I would agree with you as they seem to be reworked for a specific task and not just hacked for grins.
