Since I posted the thread about reproduction parts, it appears that some of the members here collect tractors to use, and aren't concerned about looks and beauty, and some of the members here collect tractors to restore and show. So I'm wondering, how many of each do we have amoung us?

Collect and use would be guy that buy tractors to use, and if they don't hold up or pull their weight, they are sold, and something else is found to take it's place. These collectors don't care much as far as paint appearance or originallity, they just want the tractor to work when it's needed.

Collect and restore would be guys that buy tractors to include in their collection, and in most cases, won't ever have to work again in it's life time. These collectors spend hours in the shop painting the tractors and spending as much money as it takes to bring the tractor back to originallity as possible. Most of these tractors are found at the various shows.

Should be fun to see how the results turn out.

I don't restore mine! Just a good refurb so I can find any issues they may have.

Troy, I can't vote as I fit into both categories.  Most of mine work, but some will never see work again, and of those, not all will be restored.

I'am in the same shed as Daniel.

I started out as a user, then became a restorer, and now

am both.

Hmmmmm! Restorer? nah! Collector? Well, if junkers are still collecting? Ya!, Show queens? Show them with others but as best of running that Make it to the show, ha! None really original, and like to make mine a little diff usually and some are MM colors, MM or not! Why have the same ol', same ol' that everyone else has, when you can have different look or aproach? You can only see so many JDs and Cadets and still stay interested in looking at THEM!

I'm a find them, restore them mechanically, get them looking decent and have a blast working them collector. I have plans to do some full restorations someday but don't have the time or space to devote to it at the moment. Personally, I like to see a nice original unrestored tractor in decent shape  more than the restored ones. I see the scrapes, dings and dents as part of the story and history of the tractor and they give it character. When I put my hand on the hood I like to be touching the same paint that the person who installed the hood, the original owner and every owner since has touched. I really like history and try to imagine what was taking place when the blemishes occurred.

Me too. But I like them to be original looking. I'm in the process of a complete restore on my Economy Jim Dandy, but I know it's gonna get dirty in my garden.

I think there is a little cross-over in all of us. Not many of use are only in one camp or the other and only mostly fit one category or the other. I think that's what Troy is asking about. If you HAD to choose a title, which are you?

I voted for collect & use. I think that most of the people who collect to work them all have a favorite that won't see much or any work again and we baby it out of sentimentality... We also have the one we park out back until we need to use it, then we try to use it under the cover of darkness so no one can get good video for youtube... But they all get a chance to stretch their legs once in a while.

Well, in that case, I would definitely be "Collect & Use".  No way I could do without the use of many of my tractors.  So I have cast my vote that way.
