My wife are considering selling house next sprg, I have a bunch of diecast cars stored in boxes I need to sort through and sell. I will keep some of my more treasured Dale Earnhardt and Jr cars, but everything else needs to go, I'm betting I have 50-60 cars that could be sold. My inlaws bought me a car for every Christmas and birthday when I was into it big and my FIL gave me some of his collection recently, but now not so much interest. I've got 1/24 or 1/18? and some 1/64 scale too.

So, who collects these things? How do I go about value-ing them? I thought about just putting a package together, selling all together once I sort them.

I started collecting Dale Sr's "WINSTON" cars and have all of them except for the very first SILVER one............Since they decided to run a differernt paint scheme for each race, it cost a fortune to buy them all!

I use to collect Nascar 1/24 and a lot of different diecast cars trucks old and new . I had about 155 in glass case and curio cabnets. When I moved I sold all but about 10  , Dale senior 1 , little e 1 Jimmie Johnson 1 , Mark Martin 3 ,an old dodge power wagon ,68 camaro , 49 ford ford coupe , and a 32 ford street rod . I made a package deal to a collector for $950 for the others including the cases.

I do not collect them. But my brother does. There are some very avid collectors out there.
I think I would go to a collectors shop and see if there are magazines that list their value/
Like coin catalogs, and card catalogs. Once you have some idea what they are worth. I think i would post a few on ebay or Craig list at a time. I think you would get much less selling the complete collection in one bundle. But there could be a few gems worth what you would get for the whole bundle. In the collector world there are a lot of guys looking to take the unknowing.
You notice Robert said there was one he did nnot have to complete his collection.
Sometimes a collector will pay a premium to complete the collection.

I've got quite a few but have no idea how to advise you on selling yours. They seem to be one of those type of collectables that patience and perseverence could pay off ok on them but a fast sell will probably only get you pennies on the dollar of the purchase price. I will just keep mine till they are a pain in the a$$ to my kids after I croak!---LOL

Thanks all. I will have to start going through them and see what I got, maybe some gems in there. My inlaws are QVC junkies so most were bought from there and usually 5000 car runs from them so not sure of values. I would like to get rid off all at one time, but maybe make more moolah selling individual.

I know I will keep Dale Sr. last win Talledega car and a few others. I also have a 4x4 Chevy astro with Dale Jr's Bud logal and #8 that will stay.

JD.............the last time that I priced the INNAUGURAL Winston car for Dale Sr it was over $3500.00 and that has probably been 10 years ago.  I have not even been looking for it anymore.  I do have one car that most people dont have..........the one that Sr Wrecked at Daytona,  he was escorted to the ambulance, got to the ambulance and then turned back around and went back to his car, fired it up and FINISHED the race in it.

IF I could find a buyer for my collection, I would proabably sell it minus a few special cars..........just dont have a lot of interest in Nascar diescast anymore........or Nascar for that matter.
