Harold we have a couple of cats too, both sort of rescues.
Bug was found in a guys engine compartment. I honestly don't think she was much over a month old when we got her.
Shadow was a surprise gift to a friend who didn't know his female cat got out of the house two weeks before she was scheduled to be fixed. They couldn't keep the kittens so once they were weaned and no one would take them they were headed to the shelter. All but Shadow found homes. I held off taking her home, but I am glad I did.
Our other two dogs are quasi rescues.
was headed to the shelter because she was eating her way through a 3 million dollar house on Lake Norman. She chewed through a pillar in the living room one night and the wife had to cry and plead with her husband to not shoot her. We brought her home ( she was supposedly fixed) and a little while later a stray came around to visit that I would guess was a German shepherd wolf mix - I say that because we had a Shephard/wolf hybrid up until I was 14) She presented us with a litter of large puppies and we found great homes for all of them but Diesel who my wife fell in love with. The momma dog eventually wound up on a sheep farm in Winston Salem. As a full blood Great Pyrenees she is in heaven.
Somehow he looks retarded in every photo of him
Red showed up about 4 weeks ago about to starve to death and wanting someone to love him. He followed my wife around all day and when I came home he greeted me in the yard and came in the house with me. Vet said he is just a pup, probably 9 months to a year old. No one claimed him so he is our new buddy. HE still has to learn some manners, but he is almost completely housebroken. He is still a bit camera shy.
All the dogs and cats love Heath. Shadow will go find him if he cries. He picks both cats up by their hair and they just purr. We were very watchful of Red the first couple of weeks but he lets Heath crawl right over him and doesn't care.
They all live together is harmony.
And to round out the menagerie we have
Hobo the blue tailed skink that we found in a roll of carpet. He has no blue tail because he is mature. Most don't live long enough for that. HE is 2 1/2 now
And a gerbil that I despise, but who refuses to die. I am tempted to give her to the cats. Little demonic thing serves no purpose and bites anyone that gets near it. Seems happy to be in the shredded paper in her cage. When she finally kicks off we are getting more rats. They are the perfect pet - loving, smart, easy to care for, social, and fun to watch.
Yes we have a bunch of pets, but they can make a bad day a lot better. They are great judges of character - except for the gerbil who hates the world - and i fear for the life of anyone who ever messes with Heath or Steph. Although I have a feeling that if someone attacked me they would sit back and see if I am as tough as I have told them I am.
It is funny how they know who is in charge. Within two days of being here Red knew I was the boss and Steph was a pushover.
Well that is long enough - but I can't sleep.
