I'm pretty sure that engine is a Briggs and Stratton.

Briggs for sure. As I stated in another post, get the numbers off the flywheel shroud & we can tell you the HP.

The data tag is missing for that engine, picture 3 shows it best, the 4 rivet holes in a square are where the tag was. If/when you pull the head get a bore measurement. I will look in my Briggs book later and see what I can tell by looking that way.

I missed the tag holes Peter...sharp eye you have...or very dull ones I have. With the points cover just like my 14 & 15hp, I thought it larger & would have the numbers stamped on the shrouding. I need to look before I leap.

the engine looks like my model 14, same carb, intake, shroud, tank, points cover,
flywheel... more numbers should be under the flywheel, (removal required to see).
I'm just recently collecting info on the model 14, so don't know it all, yet, but I
thought they range from 2.5 to 6.6 HP

the tractor looks like a sears unit... google old sears lawn tractor...select "images"

good luck
