Within the next couple weeks I am going to be picking up A New Holland S-16 GT. My question is who made this GT and what motor did they use in it. The guy I'm getting it from is a scrapper and don't know a lot about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Kelly

I am getting it for scrap weight and it has a mower deck with it also. It is in Owego NY and was in the big flood last year. Basically wanted the 16hp motor for another project I am going to be working on. Hopefully the motor can be saved. It doesn't look to be in too bad of shape maybe I will just reserect it.

From what I Googled, it is made by Ariens and has a Kohler  K341. You could get a 3-point for it, wonder if that's on it?

New Hollands were made by Sperry-New Holland. Then they sold out the line of GTs to Ariens, who made their garden tractors to the same design for a few more years.

The engine should be a Kohler K341, like Kenny mentioned.

No Kenny it does not have a 3-pt on it. He has another one just like it with a 3pt on it I will be acquiring when he gets his Kubota running.

There's my one thing to learn today.

I always heard the New Hollands were just rebadged Ariens.  You're saying these tractors are actually a New Holland design that Ariens stuck their name on?

Sperry designed the tractors initially, and were sold as Sperry-NH. Ariens was looking to get into the GT market, as opposed the smaller units they were known for at the time. Ariens had money to spend, and Sperry was more than willing to sell off New Holland L&G after disappointing initial sales. They thought they were going to compete with Case and JD right from the get-go. So Ariens bought the design. Ariens dropped all their own attempts at LT's at that time, and went only with the New Holland design. The only initial change that was done was that when the existing inventory was used up, Ariens switched from fiberglass to metal fender pans.

I saw a couple of these at a local tractor show a couple years ago, they were restored and really a nice tractor. I had considered looking for one.

I got friends up in Oswego.
