Almost finished with the repairs, well, the repairs are finished, but I have yet to put the wheels, tank, and fender pan back on, then the deck.  I have to feed the cattle now, but I may get the fuel tank & wheels back on so I can give it a test drive.  I'll try to get a few more pics of what I did also.

I finished the repairs.  Below is the pic of one side at the axle tube mount...the other side I did exactly the same.

DSC00063.JPG

This is at the cross member at the front of the transaxle housing.  John Deere only had the one bolt utilized.  The hole was worn oblong, so I used this large hardened steel washer and welded it to the plate after taking this pic.

DSC00065.JPG

The cross member passes right over another tapped transaxle boss on the other side, so I drilled the plate so I could add another bolt to this side.  The red arrow points to the added bolt.  Only one I had the right length was a used one.

Being I raised the transaxle at the axle mounts 1/4", I also had to add spacer washers at the front, marked by the blue arrow.

Took her for a drive, and the problem is GONE!!!!!!!!   :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana:

I now also have a positive neutral, with NO creeping!

Looks like a good fix to me, Daniel! And it sounds like it worked. That's the best part.

Congratulations on the repair. When things start floating around life can get kind of squirrely.

We are glad you got the major problem corrected, maybe JD should have you on there staff to tell them how to correct such problem for yours will last a life time, and using used bolts is what they are saved for. Good job.

just a update , 420's and 30's are nothing like the 400 . i dont know what it would take to break the axle brackets on a 400 it would be tuff to do . anyhoo my bolts where loose so i pulled the bolts put a little blue thread lock on them and tightened them till they wouldnt turn and then went another 1/4 turn . ( old time torque specks ) LOL . no more creep in reverse and no more clunk when changing directions . happy happy happy
