Hey every one i have a Miller welder with a onan p180  that we had at the house and the aux power did not work and there was other issues and it was away for almost 4 years it was in the repair shop then into storage ! where it sat  and sat well we got it home abit ago .. and i mounted it on a trailer when we had it before is also had a Knock/tick i personally thought that it was a rod bearing but the engine has low hours Maybe 200 if that well after all that time it sat then i started a few days ago then it was flooding its self out so i took apart the carb expecting to replace the Floats with brass ones i cleaned the carb with no luck ... so i took the needle valve and used polishing compound with a Q tip and cleaned up the seat that fixed that then it starts leaning it self out so today i took the intake manifold off and removed the valve covers and found the problem ! i also cleaned the carb now it runs Mint ! as you can see in the picture the cap thing laying in the bottom of the valve box there is a cap that goes on the valve stem and some how it fell off ! i put i back in and it runs Awesome ! and quiet ! no knock ! also the onan engines you can adjust the valve clearance !

thats all for today !

cheers

Ty

Thanks, I see what the issue was, maybe that is what is the matter with my Onan. I have to run it at 3/4 choke to keep it running.

I wonder how that got off of there. From a previous disassembly or maybe from over revving the engine?
