Hello,

Does anyone have a wiring diagram loose for a GIL33470A Montgomery Wards tractor?  Or can you point me to a manual that would have it? It has a 401707-0131-01 Briggs and Stratton.

I could probably figure it out, but someone else along the way did a beautiful rewiring job that cooked a few wires, blew a fuse, and knocked out the light switch.  I don't have anything worth copying. I would rather have a wiring diagram that would guarantee I do it right!

Thanks!
Ben Wagner

No help on the manual, but I noticed the #'s are different in the title. Need that fixed?

Yes sir, Kenny, you can correct the title if you would be so kind.  The proper numbers are a GIL 33470.  I could have sworn it was right when I posted it... but then again, yesterday was a long day.  I guess my fingers had a little too much free rein!

Thanks!

Ben Wagner

new restorer, I believe you have solved the mystery for me.  I finally got the wiring wound up today.  Thanks for taking time to hunt those down!  Somebody had tried to wire in extra lights and ended up (somehow) connecting a hot lead to ground and shorting the light switch.  It burned the light switch and most of the wiring, as well as the makeshift amp gauge.  Furthermore, grounding the hot on the ignition switch cooked most of the insulation.  Pulling off the spade terminals pulled off the back of the switch.

I ended up redoing the whole thing and it works great now.  All is said and done, and contrary to my fears, the engine still gives a good charge.  That earned a sigh of relief, too.

Lesson for all similar future "previous owners": add ins are great, but don't help if you don't know how!

I appreciate your (and everyone in the past) help getting manuals for these machines.

Thank you!

Ben W.

For reference, I also found an official wiring diagram from the Gilson service world for the 33470.

I uploaded it to the files area: http://gardentractor...9-wire-diagram/
