Congrats, Troy! I'd love an opportunity for something like that. I got to go to Daytona once, on the 50th anniversary. That was lots of fun! Still have to jacket I bought there!

WOW, that sounds really neat. You must be really good at your work to be asked to go to the Daytona race.
Wife & I have been to a few NASCAR races, and seem to enjoy the short (Bristol) tracks better than Michigan or Indy....Never been to the Daytona track....Always wanted to go to Daytona Bike Week, but too cold to ride and you don't trailer a GoldWing!

Troy will you settle a bet for me. ? Years ago we raced ARCA-only made it to Talledaga, but I remember tires were inflated with Nitrogen--NOT compressed air. My son says different---Air or N ?

Wow! Awesome opportunity ! Daytona is definitely the place. The wife and I have been to bike week ourselves, and the whole group to Daytona. Make sure you guard that leg, wish the wife and kids could go with you. Mine still talk about that trip. Congratulations

Wow What an opportunity!! Been a Nascar Fan since the first time it was shown on Wide World of Sports.
Never been to Daytona, but do get to the Arca,Nationwide & Truck Races at Iowa Speedway.
Used to follow the Indy Cars until it got to the point I could not pronounce the drivers names?

Makes sense that you are correct. Nitrogen is also used in the better suspension components. Found this on the net:
Nitrogen in your tires.. pros and cons
Written by Joe Rossman Thursday, 22 May 2008 14:32
They say that tires rot from the inside and the outside, but when the tires have moisture inside, aluminum wheels tend to corrode and oxidize around the bead which may lead to leaking or going flat. Air that we breathe is 78% nitrogen and is an inert gas. All gasses expand and compress at the same rate, about 1/273rd for each change of one Kelvin degree. Nitrogen is dry but that's about it.
Many race car teams use nitrogen instead of air in their tires because nitrogen has a much more consistent rate of expansion and contraction compared to the usual air. Often, a half- pound of pressure will radically affect traction and handling. With track and tire temperatures varying over the duration of a race, the consistency of nitrogen is needed. Nitrogen pressure is more consistent than normal air pressure, because air typically contains varying amounts of moisture due to changes in the relative humidity on race day. Water causes air to be inconsistent in its rate of expansion and contraction. So, a humid race in the southeast United States or a dry race in the desert western United States could make for unpredictable tire pressures if "dry" nitrogen were not used.

Wow! Congratulations Troy. I haven't seen any updates lately but will your leg be ready for action by then?
