If you are talking about a performance cam then everything I have read says you have to make modifications to everything in order to see a major difference. Like boring the carb bore larger ( If it is a Carter carb), milling the head and porting the intake port. among other things.

I read a series of articles on a Kohler upgrade called Killer Kohler and by doing mods like you are doing they got a 12hp K301 up to 16-17hp if memory serves.

Before you start getting crazy on the engine mods check with your local club rules to make sure your not gonna get kicked out for having a hot tractor in a stock class. If its a stock class you and you get cam work its going to be pretty noticable

If you bore the carb, and port and polish make sure you cut the valve seats correctly also! And ABSOLUTELY get a cam !! No need to do everything else with out it!! Its a waste .
